Letter from Our Founder

Alex Fisher - Founder and Chief Creative Officer

Greetings, Friends.

In 1997 I found a company... not unlike how a dog finds a tennis ball in the woods. I knew I was looking for something, I just didn't know what it was. But, when I found it, I knew I wanted to play a while.

When I was a boy in Brooklyn, I showed enthusiastic interest in companies like Ben & Jerry’s and Patagonia. Not because I loved ice cream, nor was I an avid mountain climber. I knew that in both cases, there was a story behind the product. The companies were so much more than frozen cream and stamped metal. They were about the community, the environment, and the people behind the product. They were committed to giving back, and to making their success something for EVERYONE to celebrate. Nobody was doing that yet for dogs, and my best friend at the time, a chocolate lab named Seeger, led me here.

Our mission: to amuse, explore, support, innovate, create, educate, celebrate, and philanthropate... all in the name of the dog. This mission has never been as relevant as it is today. The bigger our litter gets, the more important our mission becomes.

Even before Planet Dog earned a dollar, we gave 50 cents away. Even in those early days, when we were making 20 products at a time, and shipping out of my tiny apartment in Portland, Maine. And, in 2013, we reached a pinnacle of giving – achieving the milestone of giving away more than a million dollars! Seeger and I never saw that coming.

From a tennis ball-sized idea to a world class company, Planet Dog is honored to be the industry leader, proudly creating the best products from the best materials for our best friends. We’re driven by the best mission, for the best customers, and to bring our best every day to the community, to the earth, and to our Pack of people that make it happen.

We are so proud to present to you our products, people, and stories that represent what we set out to discover and achieve 17 years ago. We hope that as you visit our company for the first time or the hundredth time, it is with the same wags of joy that your dog feels to find an unexpected gem of a tennis ball hidden in the tall grass on that special walk with you, their very best friend. We thank you!

With wags,
Alex Fisher
